Parliament Speaker Anita Among has instructed Hamson Obua, the Government Chief Whip, to communicate with Minister of Energy and Mineral Development Ruth Nankabirwa regarding her repeated absence from parliamentary plenary sessions.

The directive comes after Minister Nankabirwa’s failure to attend the Thursday session of parliament. She had been summoned on Wednesday to provide information about the government’s strategies to tackle the surging fuel prices in the nation.

In response, Chief Whip Obua informed parliament that he had informed Minister Nankabirwa about Speaker Among’s directive, but no response was received in relation to the fuel price matters.

Over the past couple of weeks, several gas stations have gradually increased their prices by amounts ranging from Shs80 to Shs300.

Additionally, Parliament rejected the Ministry of Education and Sports’ report on school fee hikes. State Sports Minister Peter Ogwang presented a report that was deemed insufficient in addressing the school fee concerns. Speaker Among directed him to return with an updated report next Tuesday.
