Top ADF Leader Killed As UPDF Storms DRC Terror Camp

Saturday, September 23, 2023

President Yoweri Museveni has provided an update on UPDF (Uganda People’s Defense Forces) operations in the Democratic Republic of Congo, confirming that a prominent ADF leader was among those killed in UPDF’s targeted counterterrorism mission.

President Museveni shared this information on a Saturday afternoon, stating, “I want to inform you that on Saturday, September 16, 2023, our Air Force conducted an operation against four ADF terrorist targets located between 100 and 150 kilometers from the Ugandan border, specifically on the Ntoroko side. These targets had been pinpointed through the excellent reconnaissance efforts of our Special Duties Regiments (SDR).”

He went on to reveal that subsequent intelligence reports indicated the elimination of numerous terrorists, including the infamous Meddie Nkalubo, who was responsible for orchestrating bombings in Kampala. These attacks included incidents near the Police Station, Parliament, and recent discoveries near Kayanja’s Church and the Bunamwaya area.

President Museveni emphasized that those who had engaged in these deadly activities would come to realize that harming Ugandans is not a suitable pursuit. He highlighted the comprehensive reach of Ugandan security forces in pursuing criminals across borders, provided they coordinate with neighboring governments.

Museveni expressed gratitude to President Felix Tshisekedi for allowing collaborative efforts with the Congolese Army to liberate this part of Congo from ruthless criminals and to hold them accountable for their actions, especially for the brutal killings of Ugandans. He mentioned incidents such as the Nyabugaando children’s murders, attacks on Sheikhs, the assassinations of Major Kiggundu, Gen. Katumba’s daughter, Joan Kagezi, among others, and asserted that all those involved would face consequences unless they surrendered.
