Rakai District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Police are currently investigating the tragic incident in Rakai District, where two children, identified as 14-year-old Vincent Lutwama and his 16-year-old brother Sseruzzi, were potentially poisoned to death overnight on Monday. The authorities have one suspect in custody, while at least two others are still at large.

Southern Regional Deputy Police Commander SP Jamada Wandera confirmed the incident on Tuesday, suspecting that the victims were poisoned by their colleagues who fled after committing the offense.

The father of the deceased, Pasikazia Sserugo, stated that his sons had left home on Monday evening to burn charcoal where they slept. He learned about their death on Tuesday morning and believes they might have consumed poisoned food. Sserugo, who described his sons as the family’s breadwinners, called on the police to apprehend the suspects.

Byakabanda Sub County Umar Ssebalinde, also the vice chairperson for Rakai District, condemned the killing and urged the police to apprehend the culprits. Information suggests that three friends brought food to the victims while they were burning charcoal, and immediately after giving it to them, they fled, anticipating the consequences.

As of Tuesday evening, the detained suspect was held at Rakai police station while investigations continued.
