Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan, identified the deceased individuals as 34-year-old Patrick Okema from Kitgum District and Dennis Sekiwiro from Dokolo District. The incident occurred on December 5, 2023.
The tragic event unfolded at around 7:50 am within the jurisdiction of Kira Road Division, Kampala Metropolitan East. Morris Ocan, a 53-year-old private security officer employed by Inken Distributors Limited, reported the shooting involving alleged burglars. Ocan resides in Bukoto, Old Kira Road, Nakawa Division, Kampala District.
The suspected shooter is Bosco Oringo, a 27-year-old private security guard working with Daron Security Company and residing in Mbuya, Kampala District.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Oringo, on duty at Betimo Inken offices along Old Kira Road, encountered three intruders around midnight. Positioned on the wall fence, he observed two individuals attempting to break into the office. Allegedly, one of the intruders was armed, prompting Bosco to open fire in self-defense, resulting in the unfortunate demise of Okema and Sekiwiro.
Owoyesigyire highlighted that a thorough examination of the crime scene was conducted by a team comprising homicide, scene of crime officers, crime intelligence, and uniformed officers. A comprehensive case file has been initiated for a detailed investigation.
Various exhibits were recovered, including a well-sharpened iron bar capable of breaking doors, the weapon used in the shooting, a hacksaw blade head, and identification cards belonging to the deceased individuals.
Fingerprints were lifted from the damaged door, and the bodies have been taken to the city mortuary pending post-mortem examinations.
