Police in Nairobi are currently investigating two distinct cases of murder involving women, both stemming from suspected domestic altercations.

Investigators handling the cases have clarified that the incidents are unrelated, and the identities of the perpetrators are known.

The initial incident unfolded when a 24-year-old woman named Grace Wangari succumbed to injuries sustained during a domestic dispute with a man believed to be her boyfriend in Githurai 44, Nairobi. The incident occurred on the night of Saturday, January 20.

Neighbors reported hearing screams from the woman’s residence and promptly intervened, alerting the police. The woman was rescued and transported to a local clinic with head injuries before being transferred to Kiambu Level Five Hospital. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead upon arrival due to excessive bleeding.

The man involved in the altercation was apprehended at the scene and subsequently booked at Kasarani police cells on charges of murder. According to the suspect, the fatal conflict arose from domestic differences. The police are actively pursuing a murder investigation, with plans for a postmortem examination to be conducted on the woman’s body.

In a separate incident in Kiambiu slums, a 40-year-old woman named Mercy Atieno was fatally stabbed by her husband during a domestic dispute. Her lifeless body was discovered in their residence after the incident occurred on Saturday night. Although a blood-stained knife was recovered at the scene, the perpetrator remains at large. The motive behind the incident is currently unknown, as stated by Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei.

These tragic events follow a recent surge in the investigation of women who have fallen victim to violence, prompting calls from various quarters for decisive action to address this concerning trend.
