Uganda Police shoot man dead in Tororo for attacking officer

Tororo District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Tororo police have shot dead 26-year-old Godfrey Odoi for allegedly attacking and injuring a police officer. Odoi, a resident of Poti cell in Iyolwa town council, Tororo district, was involved in a confrontation with Francis Musamali, the officer in charge of Iyolwa police post on Tuesday.   

Reports suggest that Odoi hacked Musamali with a machete on the head. The altercation ensued when Musamali, alongside the area LC 1 chairperson, attempted to counsel Odoi, who had threatened to harm his 10-year-old brother using a machete.

After injuring the OC, Odoi attempted to flee but was apprehended by locals. During the apprehension, he allegedly tried to harm the OC again, prompting the police to intervene. In an attempt to disarm him, the officer shot Odoi in the leg.

Mose Mugwe, the Bukide South police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that Odoi succumbed to his injuries due to excessive bleeding while being transported to Tororo Hospital. Mugwe explained that Odoi’s body is lying at Tororo Hospital mortuary pending postmortem examination.
