Ugandan Police Intercept Stolen Kenyan Land Cruiser in Lira

Lira, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | A gunshot wounded a police officer from Lira Central Police Station during a confrontation when authorities intercepted a suspected stolen Toyota Land Cruiser with the registration number KDH 790K from Kenya. Tony Ebong and three others, George Otyato from Awendo, Kenya, Hussein Akako from Tororo-Malaba, and Paul Omara from Oyugisi Homa Bay County, Kenya, sustained injuries during the incident.

The impounded vehicle is at Lira Central Police Station, and an ongoing investigation aims to locate a suspect who managed to escape. All injured parties are receiving medical attention at Lira Regional Referral Hospital, and their roles in the episode are yet to be determined.

A joint team of regular police and Flying Squad operatives set up a checkpoint in Lira City East Division, acting on information about a potentially stolen vehicle from Kenya. The incident is documented under Reference Number OB 24/9/11/2023 at Karuri Police Station, indicating the vehicle was being driven into Uganda through the Busia border.

The suspects reportedly altered the vehicle’s number plates to UBE 665K while traversing Dokolo district to evade law enforcement efforts. Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Police Spokesperson, verified that the vehicle’s movements across Tororo, Mbale, Soroti, and Lira were monitored using a tracking system.
