Summary:
- The Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee has instructed the Uganda Land Commission to produce 26 missing land titles for Uganda’s missions abroad.
Members of the Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee have urged the Uganda Land Commission (ULC) and the Foreign Affairs Ministry to provide the 26 missing land titles associated with Uganda’s missions abroad. This request comes following revelations by Andrew Nyumba, the acting secretary of ULC, during a committee session chaired by Norah Bigirwa, the woman MP for Buliisa district. Nyumba disclosed that the ULC only has titles for 14 out of the 40 mission properties submitted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Expressing concern, Aruu South MP Christopher Komakech and Arua Central City’s Jackson Atima emphasized the need for ULC to promptly generate the outstanding land titles for foreign missions to ensure land security. They criticized the commission for what they perceived as a lack of seriousness in handling the matter.
In response to the discrepancies, the committee chairperson called for a harmonization of records between the Commission and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This call was prompted by the revelation that the land title for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was missing, a claim contradicted by Commission officials who denied having possession of the document.
