Fort Portal City | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Corporal Peter Avugo, who served as a signaler in the Air Force Evacuation unit of the Mountain Division, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the UPDF’s Mountain Division Court Martial, presided over by Lt. Col. Benon Besigye at Muhooti Barracks in Fort Portal City, Kabarole District. He was convicted of the shooting deaths of two colleagues and the injury of five others in the incident.
The court convicted Cpl Avugo on two counts of murder and five counts of attempted murder. The charges arose from his actions on the night of July 14, 2023, when he was found guilty of shooting Private Anyoro Richard and Staff Sergeant Ochen Albert Tony to death and injuring five others.
Lt. Col. Benon Besigye, the chairman of the court martial, delivered the judgment and sentence. He stated that Cpl Avugo would serve his life sentence in Katojo Prison. The convict has the option to appeal within 14 days.
