UPDF Soldier Shoots 22-Year-Old Man Dead in Kikuube

Kikuube District | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Police in Kikuube have arrested a UPDF officer for allegedly shooting dead a 22-year-old man during an introduction ceremony.

The deceased has been identified as Augustine Akugizibwe a resident of Kibararu village, Bugambe parish, Bugambe Sub County in Kikuube district while the suspect is private Fahad Sseguya detached at the UPDF 13th Battalion.

It is alleged the army officer was hired by one Martin Nkamwine to provide security services at an introduction ceremony held over the weekend in Mairirwe village, Bugambe sub county.

According to Julius Allan Hakiiza the Albertine regional spokesperson, as the ceremony reached climax at midnight, a group of youths raided the ceremony at started attacking those who were attending the ceremony.

The situation because tense and the officer tried to calm it down in vain. The group of youths later attacked the officer with an intention of grabbing his weapon where private Sseguya ended up arresting the deceased at tied him using ropes.

However, the deceased untied himself and moved towards grabbing a weapon from the army officer and in the middle of the scuffle, he was allegedly shoot immediately. The deceased died while being taken to a nearby medical facility.

Hakiiza adds that the body of the deceased was handed over to the relatives for burial after a postmortem was conducted.

The spokesperson however urges those organizing ceremonies to always priotize informing the local police to avoid such incidents.

He adds that the suspect is currently being held at Kikuube central police station.
