Kampala, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | Professor Celestino Obua, the Vice Chancellor of Mbarara University of Science and Technology, has assumed the position of the Chairperson of the Uganda Examinations Board (UNEB). His appointment was officially announced by Education Minister Janet Museveni and was followed by his swearing-in ceremony held during a board meeting at the UNEB headquarters in Ntinda.

During the inauguration, Janet Museveni provided guidance and highlighted the new responsibilities and potential challenges that Professor Obua would face. She stressed the strategic importance of UNEB to the government, emphasizing its central role in the development of human capital.

Professor Obua takes on this role after the tenure of Professor Mary Okwakol, who had been at the helm of the examination body since 2014, succeeding the renowned educationist Fagil Mandy.

His appointment comes at a critical juncture as UNEB faces the need to adapt its assessment methods to align with the new curriculum and consider the incorporation of continuous assessments carried out at the school level.

Minister Janet Museveni emphasized the importance of this task, emphasizing that the new Chairperson must ensure that the assessment process remains both valid and reliable. This is vital to ensure that the national certificates issued by UNEB to successful candidates attain universal recognition and credibility.
