Senior Presidential Advisor on Diaspora Affairs, Ambassador Abbey Walusimbi, has called for greater unity among Ugandans living in the United Kingdom (UK), urging them to channel their efforts effectively in support of their homeland. Speaking on January 12, 2025, Walusimbi emphasized the importance of coordination, stating, “It was a pleasure, and I look forward to implementing the agreed deliverables, including enhancing diaspora unity, setting up a roadmap through the NRM Independent Diaspora Taskforce, and lobbying opportunities for diaspora members.”

Walusimbi also expressed his commitment to the diaspora community, noting that the Office of the President (Diaspora Affairs) operates under an open-door policy and is ready to engage with all Ugandans. He highlighted several upcoming programs and projects for 2025, promising that a detailed activity plan will be shared soon.

During a meeting with Allan Olara, Chairperson of the NRM UK & Ireland Chapter, Walusimbi praised the diaspora’s vital role in national development and encouraged them to leverage their expertise and experiences to aid Uganda’s growth. He urged further collaboration among diaspora members and called for more engagement with the Embassy to bolster economic initiatives.

Olara assured that his leadership would promote political tolerance and coexistence, stressing that the NRM UK Chapter aims to set an example for unity and cooperation among Ugandans abroad. He also shared that they have secured investment pledges for Uganda’s health, education, tourism, and agriculture sectors, highlighting the potential for significant contributions to the nation’s development.

As part of their ongoing work, Olara and the NRM UK & Ireland Chapter are also actively addressing misinformation and defamation about Uganda circulating within the diaspora, aiming to present a positive and united front for the country’s image abroad.
