Kenyan climber Cheruiyot Kirui, who went missing above 8,000 meters on Mount Everest on Wednesday, has been found dead, according to The Himalayan Times. Kirui’s body was discovered by the Seven Summit Treks rescue team just below the summit point.

Kirui, a banker with Kenya Commercial Bank, had posted an update on Instagram on April 27, 2024, before losing contact in the Bishop Rock zone. He had attempted to scale Everest without supplemental oxygen.

The fate of Nawang Sherpa, who was with Kirui in the death zone, remains unknown, according to base camp officials.
