yesterday

FIFA has officially approved Nakivubo War Memorial Stadium, also known as Hamz Stadium, to host local and international football matches. This follows the certification of its newly installed artificial turf under FIFA’s prestigious “FIFA Quality Programme for Football Turf” standard.

The announcement was made on Monday, October 7, by businessman Hamis Kiggundu, commonly known as Ham, marking a significant milestone for the stadium. The approval covers the state-of-the-art Duofilament Mono football turf, installed by renowned sports surface company Nurteks Hali San.ve Tic. A.S., and is valid from October 4, 2024, to October 3, 2027.

In a certificate signed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino, FIFA confirmed that the turf had passed all required tests and meets international standards. This certification boosts Nakivubo Stadium’s status, enhancing its prospects as a venue for both domestic and international events.

With three Uganda Premier League clubs already applying to use the stadium, football fans can expect improved playing conditions and high-caliber matches in the seasons ahead.
