Uganda’s national football team, the Cranes, has fallen two places in the latest FIFA World Rankings, released on June 20th.

The East African nation now sits at 94th globally and 21st in Africa, following a mixed bag of results in recent matches.

The Cranes’ drop in rankings was influenced by their performance in the June World Cup Qualifiers. They narrowly defeated Botswana 1-0 but suffered a 2-1 loss to Algeria. These results impacted their standings, causing them to slide down the rankings.

Morocco leads African football, holding firm at 12th globally, with Senegal and Egypt close behind. The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is the top-ranked East African country, placed 11th in Africa and 61st worldwide.

Despite the slip, Uganda remains the highest-ranked nation in the CECAFA region, followed by Kenya.

Regional neighbors also experienced changes in their rankings: Kenya dropped to 108th, Tanzania climbed to 114th, and Rwanda stayed at 131st.

The decline in rankings highlights the need for the Cranes to improve their performance and consistency in future matches. The next FIFA rankings update is set for July 18, 2024.
