UMA & Turkish Embassy Sponsor Manufacturers for a Turkey Study Tour

Kampala, Uganda | THE BLACK EXAMINER | The Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA), in collaboration with the Turkish Embassy in Uganda, has arranged an eight-day industrial tour to Turkey, scheduled from October 12th to October 19th, 2023.

The primary objective of this industrial tour is to facilitate the expansion of markets for raw materials and machinery, encourage investment partnerships, establish business connections, and promote the exchange of expertise.

During the flagging-off ceremony held at UMA’s headquarters, Deo Kayemba, the Chairman of the UMA board, stressed the importance of forging such international partnerships to create markets for locally-produced goods.

The delegation for the industrial tour to Turkey comprises 25 members from UMA and the Uganda Chamber of Commerce and Industry. They will gain comprehensive insights into Turkey’s industrial sectors, including steel, energy, food processing, textiles, and more.

In 2021, Uganda’s exports to Turkey amounted to $11.7 million, with key commodities being coffee, tea, tobacco, and fruits. Conversely, Turkey’s exports to Uganda reached $53.1 million, featuring machinery, electronic products, home appliances, textiles, among others.

Chairman Kayemba highlighted the promising economic partnership between the two countries, with trade steadily growing from just $722 in 1995 to $11.7 million in 2021, reflecting an annual growth rate of 11.3%.
