Pte Patrick Byamukama, a 31-year-old UPDF soldier assigned to the 41st Battalion of the 3rd Brigade, was fatally stabbed on Monday night by unidentified assailants.
Speaking on behalf of the Kigezi regional police, Mr. Elly Maate, confirmed the incident and stated that a team of investigators had arrived at the crime scene in Butanda Sub County to begin the investigation.
Investigations are still ongoing, but it’s true that an unidentified assailant stabbed the UPDF soldier to death in the stomach, according to Mr. Maate.
The dead was at his home at midnight on Monday when a group of unidentified assailants attacked and stabbed him, leaving him to fight for his life, according to Butanda Sub County Chairman Mr. Barnett Champion.
“The assailants stabbed his stomach and other bodily parts with sharp objects. According to him, there is no evidence of any misconduct that could be connected to the murder of this UPDF soldier who was on pass leave.
Byamukama was taken urgently to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital for treatment, but later pronounced dead, according to Mr. Champion.
Two persons have been arrested after being accused of taking part in the murder of this UPDF soldier, and he predicted that they will aid the police in their investigations.
However, a few irate townspeople decided to take matters into their own hands and burned additional properties in addition to setting fire to the residences of those suspects. In the parish, this tragedy represented the fourth murder in a year, according to Mr. Champion.
