Police in Bushenyi district are investigating the suspected suicide of Amon Mwesigye, who was found dead inside a lodge.

Martial Tumusiime, spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi Region police, reported that the incident took place Thursday night at Planet Bar and Lodge in Kigoma trading centre.

Preliminary reports indicate that Mwesigye visited the lodge for an evening outing before requesting accommodation, which was arranged by lodge attendant Maureen Kyosimire.

Kyosimire recounted that Mwesigye appeared mentally and physically stable when he was given a room for the night. He requested a padlock to secure his room, but the attendant denied the request.

On Friday morning, Anita Alinda, the owner of the bar, discovered Mwesigye’s body hanging in his room and immediately alerted the police. Tumusiime noted that the lodge has been closed for investigations as it is now considered a crime scene. Mwesigye’s body has been sent to Kitagata hospital for a postmortem examination.
