The opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) in Uganda has hit a roadblock in its plans to hold its fourth-year anniversary celebration at the Kololo Independence Grounds on July 22. The Ministry of Defence informed NUP that the grounds would not be available due to ongoing infrastructural development.

NUP’s leader, Bobi Wine, expressed frustration over what he sees as bias, stating that the grounds seem to be reserved only for supporters of President Museveni. Despite the challenges faced by NUP from state authorities, the party remains determined to connect with its supporters across Uganda.

The NUP had intended to use the central location of Kololo Grounds to gather a large number of people for its event, highlighting the party’s popularity, especially in the central region where it garnered significant support in the 2021 election.

The clash over the event venue reflects the ongoing tensions between the opposition party and the government, with NUP facing obstacles in organizing events and reaching out to its members.
